Research and Writing

Hello readers, this is a blog task assigned by Prakruti Bhatt ma'am. These Thinking Activity deals with the questions and discussion about the Research and Writing. To know more lets begin.

Research is not always needed to be innovating and creating something new. Research comes from understanding of existing concepts, re-examining established ideas, or applying known frameworks to new contexts. This involves exploring literary territories, introducing novel theories, or challenging established criterion. It often has the potential to redefine the field or bring revolutionary understanding.

Classifying my Dissertation Topic:

Your topic, "Amnesia and the Self: A Psychoanalytic Exploration of Memory in 'Memento' and 'The Bourne Identity'", applying established psychoanalytic theories to explore the theme of memory and identity. This is my initiate towards the theory of psychoanalysis but increases my understanding of it within specific cinematic texts.

The focus on amnesia and memory in films is a rich area, but I’ll be offering a fresh interpretation of these themes through the chosen framework and films. While it doesn't invent a new theory, it contributes to the field by applying psychoanalytic insights to popular films, creating a bridge between theory and mainstream cultural texts.

In this way, my work might illuminate new aspects of memory, identity, and narrative structures, showcasing the ongoing relevance of psychoanalytic theory in contemporary analysis.

Q.  Is the paraphrase approximately the same length as the original passage?

Yes, the passage I provided to the Chatbot is approximately the same length as the original one. The response which I got from the Chatbot is,

There is little benefit in attempting to separate any artistic form or movement from its origins and related influences. Critical isolation creates a narrow perspective, as it detaches artistic practices from the contexts that have shaped them. While this may seem straightforward, it is important to reaffirm such truths, especially during periods of change. When something "new" emerges, we often fall into the habit of isolating it—whether old or recent—from the broader contexts that significantly contribute to its creation. For example, how can we study electronic literature without acknowledging its connection to the literary, the playful, and the sensory? How can we critically examine anything without these reference points, and how do we address our natural limitations in doing so? The most effective approach is to learn from the past, build on the foundations laid by others, and highlight the aspects we consider most important for further exploration.”

Q.
Has any part of the passage been copied word for word?

Yes, there are a lot of words which I found being copied as of the original passage. Because what I have experienced while using the chatbots is that, many times when we ask or give prompt to the chatbot at that time they just rewrite and replace some words with other synonyms.

Q. Does the paraphrase have the same meaning as the passage?

Yes, the meaning of the paraphrase is the same as of the original paraphrase. As I mentioned above that it gives the easy form of explanation of the provided matter, then it depends of the prompt an individual provides.

Q. What is the full form of CIS? Discuss some of the types of searches which can be employed to search for sources in a library equipped with CIS.

Electronic Sources

Electronic Reference Works which are accessible online or via CD/DVD-ROM and can be searched both within the library and remotely. They offer advantages like up-to-date content, broad coverage, easy downloading, hypertext links, and advanced search tools. However, printed works shouldn't be overlooked, as some valuable resources exist only in print, and electronic versions may sometimes offer incomplete coverage compared to their print counterparts. Consider the scope and completeness of electronic resources when using them.

Print

To start a research project, consult reference works for guidance. These can include;Indexes and Bibliographies which categorize materials by subject and provide details like author and publication date. Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, and Biographical Sources offer basic subject information. Libraries typically have these resources in both print and electronic forms. Print Reference Works, which found in reference rooms, general works (e.g., dictionaries, atlases) are shelved together, while specialized works are grouped by subject (e.g., biology, literature). Annually published works like indexes and abstracts are arranged chronologically.

The library's catalog

The online catalog of library holdings allows users to search for resources like books, journals, and audiovisual materials using various methods. Common search types include;

The Author Searches which Locate works by entering the full name of the author (personal or corporate). The Title Searches, find works by title or series, even if you know only part of the title. The Subject Heading Searches use subject headings from the Library of Congress, including specific subheadings for detailed searches. The Call Number Searches, retrieves information using a work's unique call number. The Keyword Searches, search for works containing specific words anywhere in their titles or subject headings. The Boolean Searches use logical operators for more complex search combinations. These tools make locating materials in the library system efficient and flexible.

Conclusion

Research is not solely about innovation but also about re-examining established ideas, applying frameworks to new contexts, and contributing fresh interpretations within existing pattern. By employing psychoanalytic theory to analyze memory and identity in films like Memento and The Bourne Identity, one connects established academic concepts with contemporary cultural texts, enriching both theory and its application.

The use of library resources equipped with CIS systems enhances research efficiency by offering various search methods tailored to specific needs. Both electronic and print sources play crucial roles in academic inquiry, ensuring comprehensive coverage and depth. Understanding and utilizing tools such as electronic reference works, printed reference materials, and diverse search techniques (author, title, subject, and keyword searches) empowers researchers to navigate the breadth of available resources effectively, fostering a deeper engagement with their chosen fields of study.
